Sanctuary City
Synopsis
Sanctuary City follows two young undocumented immigrants who grow up leaning on each other for safety in a country that offers them none. Over years of late nights and whispered plans, their friendship becomes the one place either of them feels truly held.
When a way to stay finally appears, loyalty, love, and survival start to pull against one another. It is a play about what we owe the people who kept us alive, and the impossible choices that come with wanting to belong.
B is loyal, guarded, and quietly desperate to hold on to the one person who feels like home. Playing her meant living in the raw, unguarded reality of someone with everything to lose.
On the staging
The goal was to portray the rawness of these characters' reality, so a minimalist set was prioritized on purpose. Everything was kept bare and grungy: exposed pipes, plywood walls, a single bare bulb. Nothing to hide behind, so the whole weight of the story sits on the two of them.
